There's a great song in My Fair Lady (1964) when the protagonist, Eliza Doolittle, expresses her frustration with the amount of time she has spent learning to speak beautifully. She sings:
"Never do I ever want to hear another word;
There isn't one I haven't heard.
Here we are together in what ought to be a dream;
Say one more word and I'll scream!"
The title of the song is "Show Me" and that is great advice when it comes to marketing online and through social media. Don't waste words: Show them! Your communications should be highlighted by great imagery, clever quotes, and fun graphics.
That said, though, there is a time and a place to use words, too. More and more, people are seeking to understand the stories behind the products and services they purchase. The trick is not necessarily to leave words out, but to use them effectively.
So tell those stories! And if you need some help telling them well (and not getting TOO wordy), just let me know.
